Expecting
Sunlight falling over the empty crib.
Vacated shelves in the closet slowly filling with
tiny white unitards.
We’re attracting hand-knit objects
and people won’t stop asking me for his name.
My body moves restlessly, not under my control—
my dancing belly, blissfully unaware
of the seismic disruption six weeks hence.
Six weeks!
Long enough to germinate an Allium Christophii seed,
Long enough to learn basic glassblowing,
Long enough for summer to turn into fall,
Long enough to make a papa out of my boyish husband and,
if I’m lucky,
a mama out of me.

Oh ... the last three lines brought a tear to my eye.
